Finding Time to Write

Writer's picture: Nicholas BrightNicholas Bright

Writing will always be more than just a hobby to me. It is part of me and who I am. I have the dream and desire to be a published author. It is my goal and dream to live off my writing full time.

But until then... I have a day job.

Working 40 hours a week is what most of us do in order to get the bills paid. I try to get my writing done in the evenings when I can. On the first episode of my Podcast "Just Keep Writing" we discussed scheduling time in for writing. This time can be whatever you need for your writing, it does not have to be you hitting a certain word count. Plotting, outlines, edit, ect. all count as your writing time. The purpose behind scheduling yourself writing time is dedicate that time mentally to allow yourself to be there and be with your project. Allow yourself to have this time.

Try to keep consistent with this on a week to week basis. Don't be hard on yourself if you miss writing time as well. This isn't about being perfect, this is about making a habit.

Let me know how you're doing with your scheduled time in the comments below!
